$5 mugging leads to man’s death

Harry Lee- Brown, a 50-year old man, died Sunday July 8 after being beaten to death with a baseball bat in Northern Minneapolis.

According to the Pioneer Press, the Hennepin County Attorney's Office charged Andre Zedrick Steward Jr., 17, and Willis Esposito Richardson, 23, with contributing to the second-degree murder of Brown.

From the criminal complaints, Steward and Richardson agreed to steal from people. They approached Brown as he walked in the vicinity of 18th and Bryant Avenues North on June 29. The report said Richardson hit Brown with a baseball bat and Steward punched him in the face. Steward picked $5 out of Brown's pocket and the two alleged assailants went to a liquor store.

The police found Brown without a pulse on the sidewalk. He was taken to the Hennepin County Medical Center and put on life support, Brown died a week and a half later.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner said on Tuesday that Brown's cause of death was due to multiple blunt-forced head injuries and ruled his death a homicide.
