Former Minnesota men’s basketball players Lawrence Westbrook and Damian Johnson have made NBA summer league teams and will be playing in Las Vegas until July 18. Westbrook made the Minnesota Timberwolves squad, while Johnson landed on the Miami Heat’s roster.
Both Johnson and Westbrook were to participate in the Timberwolves workouts last week and compete for the last two spots on the roster, but Johnson worked out for the Heat instead. Johnson worked out with Miami before the draft in mid-June, as well as the with Timberwolves alongside Westbrook, but both players went undrafted.
The Timberwolves will play their first summer league game Monday night at 5:30 p.m. against the San Antonio Spurs in Las Vegas. The Heat played their first game of the summer Sunday night, but Johnson did not make an appearance.
