A star baseball player and enthusiastic Gophers fan, 19-year-old Brian Heiden was “an all-around good guy,” friend Luke Estanbock said.
On Sunday afternoon, Brian’s father Richard took a moment from planning Brian’s funeral to talk about him.
“Brian was studying liberal arts but he wanted something in the marketing field,” his father said. “I think that he would have been a very successful salesman because he got along so well with so many people. I guess we’ll never know.”
A College of Liberal Arts sophomore, Brian was also passionate sports enthusiast, his father said.
“Brian was a good kid who loved biking and going to Gopher games,” he said, “Brian was just at the Twins game on Thursday night.”
Heiden graduated from St. Catherine’s High School, in Racine, Wis., where he pitched for the varsity baseball team and was on the honor roll for seven consecutive semesters.
Heiden met his roommates while living in Bailey Hall last year, and his father said he was excited to be living on his own for the first time.
“They were all great friends, and he was really looking forward to living there during the school year,” Richard Heidin said.
Estanbock said everyone who knew Brian will miss him.
“He was someone who was fun to be around and he was just an all-around good guy,” Estanbock said.
Brian Heiden’s funeral will be held in Racine at the Maresh-Meredith Funeral Home on Thursday.
