Minneapolis police are telling residents to be aware and avoid suspects — four to five men, one wearing a mask — after a midnight robbery in Dinkytown, according to an all-campus safety alert. 

Shortly after midnight Saturday, a victim reported a robbery near Fifth Street Southeast and 10th Avenue Southeast, an intersection close to the Pillsbury Court apartments operated by the University of Minnesota to house faculty as they transition into campus. 

“Investigators continue to work this case and are obtaining a more thorough description,” said John Elder, a Minneapolis Police Department spokesperson, in an email. 

The SAFE-U alert, sent to campus members via text message and email, is the first alert of November after there were five sent out in October. Of those alerts, three were related to robberies. 

There were five total robberies in the Marcy-Holmes neighborhood last month, up from two in September, according to Minneapolis Police Department crime statistics.  

In a neighborhood meeting last month, MPD Inspector Todd Loining of the 2nd Precinct told community members that additional patrols were canvasing the Marcy-Holmes neighborhood on Friday and Saturday nights since August. He said those patrols lasted until the end of October.
