The Minneapolis Police Department is investigating a case involving four suspended Gophers football players.
Players KiAnte Hardin, Ray Buford, Dior Johnson and Tamarion Johnson are mentioned in an unspecified case, said department spokesman Corey Schmidt.
“We are working to determine how they are involved in the case at this time,” he said in an email.
Gophers football coach Tracy Claeys suspended the players ahead of Saturday’s home game against Indiana State for violating team rules.
The Pioneer Press reported Monday that they are being investigated for possible connections to a criminal sexual conduct case that was reported Sept. 3. It is unclear whether the players are considered witnesses or suspects, according to the Pioneer Press.
A 22-year-old woman reported being sexually assaulted on Sept. 2. The alleged assault happened around 4 a.m. Hours earlier, the Gophers beat Oregon State at TCF Bank Stadium.
Before their suspensions, a depth chart listed sophomore Hardin as a starting cornerback and redshirt freshman Buford as a backup for the game against Indiana State.
