The No. 2 Gophers defeated No. 20 Purdue 35-3 Friday at the Sports Pavilion, thanks in part to redshirt junior Dylan Ness' pin.

Ness, a 157-pound wrestler, trailed Purdue’s Doug Welch in the third period but pinned Welch with about a minute remaining.

Minnesota won all five matches after Ness’ pin and won nine of 10 matches in total.

Redshirt freshmen Brett Pfarr (184) and Sam Brancale (125) saw their first dual-meet action.  Pfarr won a 12-2 major decision over Tanner Lynde and Brancale lost 5-2 to Camden Eppert in the meet's opening match.

Redshirt senior David Thorn won a 15-5 major decision over Kyle Ayersman at 133 pounds and the Gophers led rest of the way.

Redshirt senior heavyweight Tony Nelson beat Alex White 3-0 to close out the meet.

"I'd say we wreslted real well," Nelson said.  "But we've got a lot to improve on."

The Gophers will wrestle Wyoming at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Pavilion.
