The Gophers experienced a slow day Thursday at the U.S. Olympic swimming trials in Omaha, Neb. The women took a day off while only a few men took a dip.
Junior Derek Toomey earned Minnesota's best result of the evening with a 33rd place finish in the 100-meter freestyle. He clocked in at 50.41 seconds. Recent graduate Zach Bolin followed in a tie for 137th at 51.93. Future freshman Ryan Miksch also competed and placed 147th at 52.14.
Three men also swam the 200 breaststroke. Former Minnesota swimmer Russell Payne's 2:20.98 placed him in a tie for 88th. Josh Hall followed in 104th place with a time of 2:22.59. Max Cartwright did not place due to disqualification.
