Minnesota volleyball sophomores Ashley Wittman and Tori Dixon have been named to the AVCA Mideast All-Region team for the first time in their careers.
Fourteen players in each region were honored for a total of 112 All-Region honorees. The Mideast region honored 12 Big Ten players — three from Penn State, two from Purdue, two from Illinois, two from Minnesota, one from Nebraska, one from Ohio State and one from Michigan State.
The Big Ten also produced all six of the honorable mentions, as well as the region’s freshman of the year, Micha Hancock.
Wittman and Dixon were named to the All-Big Ten team Nov. 29.
Wittman, who was named Honorable Mention All-Region last year, ranks second in the Big Ten in kills per set at 4.51.
Dixon ranks fourth in hitting percentage at .349 behind senior teammate Ariana Filho, who is third. Dixon also averages 0.31 aces per set, which ranks sixth in the Big Ten.
The Gophers host Iowa State on Friday in the NCAA tournament’s Sweet 16.
