With record turnout expected tomorrow, the Minnesota Daily will offer text updates to readers about lines at polling places and election results. We’ll focus on the campus area and let people know when the lines are short.

We’re using Twitter, a micro-blogging service, to send the updates not only because of its speed but also because readers can sign up from their mobile phones without registering for the service online.

We’ll also be using Twitter tomorrow to post updates on our web site from several Daily reporters who will be at party events in the metro area. These updates will only appear on mndaily.com and won’t be texted out to readers. We think we’ll be able to provide a really helpful service to our readers through Twitter and we’re looking into using it more in the future.
