In perhaps the least surprising news of the week, Minnesota men’s hockey senior captain Jay Barriball was named the WCHA Offensive Player of the Week on Tuesday. In his first series back after missing the final 32 games of last season, Barriball notched a goal and an assist on Friday, then scored a first-period hat-trick on Saturday to help the Gophers sweep Massachusetts at home. It’s safe to say the time off didn’t set him back much.
Minnesota opens WCHA play this weekend at home against newcomers Nebraska Omaha.
