A strange odor in Smith Hall on the University of Minnesota’s East Bank prompted a campus-wide text alert of a chemical spill Friday morning, though officials couldn’t find the source of the smell.
The Minneapolis Fire Department received a call around 7:00 a.m. Friday about an odor in the building, University spokesman Steve Henneberry said. The campus was alerted near 8:00 a.m.
Unable to find the odor’s source, University officials sent a subsequent text message about 30 minutes later alerting campus the fire department cleared the building.
The school’s Environmental Health and Safety Department will continue to investigate the cause of the smell, Henneberry said.
