The University of Minnesota’s new athletics director just started his job last week, but he’s being honored with an award this week.
Norwood Teague was honored by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics as one of the recipients for its annual “AD of the Year” award. The association named 29 recipients on Monday.
Teague completed his sixth year at Virginia Commonwealth University in 2011-12 before Minnesota hired him in April. The award honors ADs at all levels of athletics, and Teague was selected as the Division-I Southeast Region winner.
According to NACDA, the honor is given out to athletics directors who demonstrate “commitment to higher education and student-athletes; continuous teamwork, loyalty and excellence; and the ability to inspire individuals or groups to high levels of accomplishments.”
Tbe considered for the award, an athletics director needs to have been at his or her institution for a minimum of five years.
