Get used to parking on one side of the road. ItâÄôs here to stay.
Minneapolis officials enacted winter parking restrictions beginning on Friday at 8 a.m. Parking on the even side of non-snow emergency routes is banned before April 1, or until the city ends the restrictions. Huge snow banks created by last weekend’s blizzard have narrowed city roads to a single lane. The 17 inch dump that hit Minneapolis was the largest in nearly 20 years.
Minneapolis implemented the same guidelines last winter after heavy snowfall drifted into the streets.
The lack of available road space makes it difficult for emergency vehicles to navigate treacherous paths, prompting the restrictions. If serious snowfall continues, the city can declare a snow emergency with modified rules.
