Charlotte Commons hosted an open house Thursday night at their location next to Van Cleve Park on 13th Avenue.
The supportive housing rental building currently hosts 35 families, and a second building with 50 units is currently under construction. Charlotte Commons is a partnership between Project for Pride and Living (PPL) and Cabrini Partnership.
PPL is a nonprofit agency that helps low-income individuals and families in the Twin Cities and Cabrini Partnership assists people who have completed alcohol or chemical dependency treatment.
People from the Cabrini Partnership will occupy a combined 20 of the units in the two buildings.
Alicia Ramey occupies one of the Cabrini units with her 17-year-old son in Charlotte Commons and is thankful for a place to live.
"It’s such a blessing," Ramey said. "This time last year I was standing at the Salvation Army shelter."
Ramey moved in to her unit in September, allowing her to have a warm winter.
There will be a full story about the Van Cleve development in Thursday’s paper.
