Madeline Strandemo was the lone Gophers runner at the NCAA Championship meet over the weekend, and if she felt any pressure, she didn’t show it.
The redshirt junior traveled to Terre Haute, Ind. over the weekend to compete on Indiana State’s LaVern Gibson Championship Course for the NCAA Championship meet and had a big showing.
Strandemo came in 51st out of 250 total runners with a time of 20:31.5.
The redshirt junior saw huge improvement from her performance at the NCAA national meet last year, when she placed 147th.
Although Starndemo did not beat her career-best time from the NCAA Midwest Regional meet (20:23.7) she did post a second-best 6K time.
Strandemo was the only Gophers runner to compete in the meet this year. The women’s team missed a bid to the championship meet and ended an 11-year streak at nationals.
The NCAA Championship meet concludes the cross country season. The athletes will begin the track and field season in early December.
