The pups were out to strut Friday evening, thanks to the Northeast Dog Parade. Organized by The Heart of Northeast, the pups enjoyed a stroll around Northeast before joining at the park across from Wilde Cafe and Spirits. Awards were given out for tricks and costumes.
Though people — and dog — watching is good any night on St. Anthony Main, A&E was at the dog parade to scope out the best looks and cutest pups in the crowd. Here are four of our favorite looks.
Lourdes Juarez with Muñeco
Third-year student and orientation leader at Augsburg University, dog
What they wore: Express top, pants from Judith McGrann & Friends, shoes from Opitz Outlet, New York & Company purse
Those pants! That’s what caught our eyes first, along with Juarez’s friend’s adorable dog, Muñeco. Their billowy silhouette caught the wind on Friday evening perfectly. With strappy sandals, a crisp white tank top and a high ponytail, Lourdes looked cool and comfortable on a breezy summer evening.
Peri Riddel with Arlo
Digital marketing manager, dog
What they wore: Floral dress, Target sandals and sunglasses, Urban Expressions vegan leather bag
Riddel’s floral dress was as pretty as St. Anthony Main’s scenery. She was originally drawn to its combination of a cold shoulder and longer sleeves. We also loved the slightly angled hemline.
The accessories (we love the round frame sunglasses and wide-strapped sandals) brought the whole look together. And they were a bargain, too. The bag is made from vegan leather — only the best for our animal friends. Arlo approves, of course!
Erin and Brian Hart with Rona
Speech-language pathologist in the Anoka-Hennepin school district, graduate student at the University of Minnesota, dog
What Erin wore: Athleta tank top and pants, Birkenstock sandals, Warby Parker glasses, necklace from Josephs Jewelers in Des Moines, earrings from an art fair
What Brian wore: Gifted Polo, Banana Republic shorts, Allbirds sneakers, Capital Eyewear sunglasses
We love the combination of pops of color and functional athleisure in this group’s ensemble. Erin combined cool-toned Athleta pieces with ease. The pant’s purple undertones and ankle cut keep the look trendy, while Brian’s bright blue hues pop against Rona’s salt and pepper fur. You’ve probably scrolled past his Allbirds sneakers, marketed as the world’s most comfortable sneakers. We love the pastel hue he chose.
Look a little closer, though, and you’ll see that a hint of color coordination brings the group’s ensemble together. Everyone wears a pop of bright blue — from Rona’s bright tags on her collar to Erin’s turquoise nails and Brian’s polo and sneakers.
Kim Lykens with Elvin
High school science teacher, dog
What they wore: Forever 21 cropped tank top, H&M patterned shorts, sandals from Roolee, Amazon sunglasses, Madewell earrings
Lykens said she bought these shorts a couple years ago and still loves them today — we do too! The stripes are an easy way to add a graphic pop to an outfit. Though her look is made up of neutral tones, she added a shimmery coral eyeshadow that looked just like an orange-y sunset you could watch from St. Anthony Main.
Lykens looked oh-so ready for a stroll with her sidekick Elvin, named for the drummer Elvin Jones.
