Election Day is coming up, and Ward 3 City Councilman Jacob Frey is working to make sure more people have access to polling places around Minneapolis. The number of voting precincts in the city has declined in past years from 300 to 117, according to Frey’s newsletter. To combat “long lines requiring voters to wait for hours before casting their ballot,” Frey, as chair of the Elections and Rules committee, helped add eight new polling places to the city.
Frey is also working to increase hours for no-excuse absentee voting, the newsletter says. For the two weeks leading up to the Nov. 4 election, Frey’s plans would expand the hours polling places are open, including time on weekends. The hours aren’t finalized yet and won’t be released until they are settled.
