State Rep. Phyllis Kahn, DFL-Minneapolis, who represents the University area, published a letter in the current New York Times Magazine, asking the magazine’s ethics columnist about an unspecified “student intern’s” election campaign against her.

Randy Cohen, the Times columnist, did not say whether the unnamed intern’s actions were ethical, but he called the campaign a “disheartening episode.”

Cohen suggested Kahn require future interns to pledge they would not run for her seat for some period of time after leaving her office.

Despite ongoing speculation, the intern’s identity could not be determined Monday.
