Following their successes at the Griak Invitational, Gophers Hassan Mead and Megan Duwell were named Big Ten Runners of the Week.
After making history as the first Minnesota runner to finish in first place with a time of 24:37 in the eight-kilometer men’s gold race, Mead was named the Big Ten runner of the Week. This is the third time Mead has been given the award, with the other two times coming in the 2008 season.
This is the second Big Ten Runner of the Week award for Duwell this season. Duwell earned her first award after winning the individual title in the Oz Memorial run earlier in September. Duwell’s first place finish at the Griak and subsequent award makes her the first Gopher in history to win two Big Ten Runner of the week awards in the same season. Duwell finished the Griak in first place with a time of 23:00.37, which is good for fourth-best in Minnesota history.
