Minnesota had its first shakeup in the new coaching staff.
Defensive backs coach and newly appointed assistant head coach Maurice Linguist departed from Minnesota Monday night to become an assistant coach at Texas A&M University.
The move came less than a month after he was named assistant head coach by head coach P.J. Fleck. Fleck and his staff have been at Minnesota for one year and Linguist is the first departure from the initial staff set up by Fleck last January.
The former Gophers coach is a native of Dallas and is a graduate of Baylor University in Waco, Texas. Linguist also joins former Minnesota head coach Tim Brewster, who is the tight ends coach at Texas A&M.
Minnesota will now be in search of a new defensive backs coach for the upcoming season. Last season, the Gophers finished 5-7 and did not go to a bowl game under Fleck’s staff.
