Goldy’s Gameroom arcade games burglarized

Burglars also struck the St. Paul Student Center, making off with an estimated $400.

Thieves burglarized two arcade games in Coffman Union and one in the St. Paul Student Center , taking an estimated $400 from the machines, police said. The burglars took coin boxes from the machines after they pried off and broke the locks. They also tried, but failed, to break into a third machine in GoldyâÄôs Gameroom in the basement of Coffman Union, said Tim Daly , manager of Awe Vending and Amusements, a St. Paul company that owns the machines. The two burglaries were separated by five days. The Gopher Spot employees found the burglarized machine on Oct. 8, and the burglary at GoldyâÄôs Gameroom was discovered on Tuesday, according to the report. The company has replaced the damaged locks on the machines with a different style that Daly said would be more secure. While it is impossible to calculate the amount stolen, Daly said the $400 estimated loss is based on the past history of the games and the contents of other machines. Security footage in each location may have captured the burglars, but there are currently no suspects. Police are investigating the burglaries, University Police Deputy Chief Chuck Miner said. Representatives from GoldyâÄôs Gameroom and the Gopher Spot were not immediately available for comment.
