Mmmm. Al’s Breakfast. Blueberry walnut pancakes. Scrambled eggs and fresh asparagus.
Spring came early to the legendary diner this year when Doug Grina, the general manager, decided to invoke the legendary spring special of scrambled eggs and fresh asparagus with toast two weeks early.
If you like to get up at the crack of noon or just can’t make the mornings, you don’t know what your missing.
Al’s, at 413 14th Ave. S.E. in Dinkytown, will make your taste buds dance with early morning delight. Just make sure you get there early. The diner is full or near full most of the day. The restaurant is open from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday.
So when you’re heaving yourself out of bed at seven in the morning with a hangover and your head feels like a block of cement and you suddenly remember that paper that was due yesterday in Hypersonic Aerodynamics, all might seem lost.
But there’s hope.
Forget about your classes, spend an hour down at Al’s and the rest of your life will surely come into mystical alignment.
