The Gopher baseball team kicked things off this weekend for the team’s annual Family Day with the Maroon squad defeating the Gold team 6-2 during game one of the Steak N’ Beans Series.
Sophomore Ethan Liederman led the Maroon, going 2-for-5 with a double, a stolen base, and three RBI while junior Trip Schultz went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs. Freshman D.J. Snelten and sophomore Alex Tukey each pitched two shutout innings for the maroon squad, while junior Kyle O’Shea pitched one shutout inning.
Junior Justin Gominsky helped out the Gold squad, going 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Freshman Kyle Crocker and junior JT Canakes both went 1-for-3 and scored the Gold team’s only runs. Senior Scott Fern took the loss for the Gold squad, giving up three runs in the fourth inning.
The Maroon and Gold squads will play each other again Friday during game two of the Steak N’ Beans Series.
