Penn State’s football team will be allowed to compete in bowl game this year after its eligibility was reinstated by the NCAA. The football program will also be able to grant scholarships to players again next year.
The sanctions, of course, stemmed from the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse scandal, and despite an NCAA official’s claim that “Penn State has made remarkable progress over the past year,” we feel that a two-year ban is not stringent enough. By negating the sanctions, the NCAA is implying that football trumps the consequences of the alleged cover-up by some at Penn State.
