About 200 parking contracts for students on the St. Paul campus become available today from Parking and Transportation Services.
The contracts are part of a broad parking program that will take effect on the St. Paul campus.
The student contracts were on a two-year hold as construction of the St. Paul Gym was completed, said Cari Hatcher, spokeswoman for Parking and Transportation Services.
The changes are outlined in a memo from the St. Paul Oversight Committee and Bob Baker, director of Parking and Transportation Services. The changes include:
ù All contract lots will be enforced an additional two and a half hours, until 7 p.m.
ù All daily pay lots except for the fairgrounds lot will be staffed for an additional five and a half hours, until 7:30 p.m.
ù The two hourly campus lots, Upper Buford Circle and the lot behind the St. Paul Student Center, will be staffed an additional three hours, until 10 p.m.
ù Nightly contract spaces will be available in many of the more than two dozen contract lots. Unlike daily contracts, students can specify which lot they want to park in.
Hatcher said the nightly parking contracts are in response to student requests. The nightly contracts are intended to allow night students to park closer to their destination.
Bruce Troupe, captain of University Police, said there is more potential for tickets as enforcement hours are extended, but stepped-up enforcement is not part of the program.
Hatcher said about 200 contracts are available for fairgrounds lot S108C, formerly used as a carpool lot.
The lot is leased from the State Fair. Part of the lot is daily parking and part is contract parking. Students with a contract for the lot are also allowed to park in other contract lots after 4:30 p.m.
The contract rate for the fairgrounds lot is $34.50 per month. The nightly contract rate for a variety of lots is $23 per month.
Brochures highlighting student contract parking are available at Parking and Transportation Services or by calling (612) 626-7275.
