he Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport announced another delay in elevated tram service to regional jets along the lengthy C Concourse. Partial service won’t start until March or April.
The tram was supposed to open in June _ along with trams on the A and B concourses _ but the C tram ran into hardware and software problems. The delay was compounded by a crash of two trains during testing in July.
The Metropolitan Airports Commission has been busing travelers to the regional terminal while work on the problematic tram line continues.
Poma-Otis Elevator Co. of Farmington, Conn., the contractor that built the $36 million tram, will continue paying $6,500 a day in penalties until the airport ends busing in November.
At that time, the C Concourse will be completely open and travelers can use moving walkways to get to the regional concourses. The trip is eight-tenths of a mile.
