Car collision on University Avenue leaves woman in critical condition

A woman is in critical condition after a semi-truck collided with a compact car Monday afternoon on University Avenue Southeast.
The woman who was in the passenger seat of the car, and the driver were taken to Hennepin County Medical Center.
Police would not release the names of those involved in the accident.
The collision occurred when the four-door Geo Metro attempted to merge with eastbound University Avenue traffic from the Interstate Highway 35W north-exit ramp. The car nudged out under the truck’s trailer and ended up between the front and rear tires.
The back tires of the semi-truck trampled the car, Minneapolis police said.
“The car was pulling into traffic, and it got caught underneath the truck,” said Minneapolis police officer Tom Evans.
The collision shattered the car’s windshield and punched in the driver-side door.
The semi-truck driver was not injured in the accident, and the semi-truck suffered little visible damage. The truck is owned by M.M. Transfer.
The accident blocked right-lane traffic on University Avenue for an hour.
