The man accussed of going on a shooting spree in Oakdale Monday night was charged Wednesday with six felony counts in Washington County District Court.
Nhan L. Tran, 34, is being held in the Washington County jail on $2 million bail and will undergo a mental health evaluation. He faces two counts of second-degree murder, one count of attempted murder and three counts of first degree assault.
Authorities have yet to establish a motive for the shootings. There is no indication Tran had any mental health issues.
Tran allegedly shot and killed 9-year-old Devin Aryal and also injured the boy's mother, Melissa, along with two other people on a road near his parents home in Oakdale.
Witnesses said they saw a man, later identified as Tran, shooting at random cars while walking through a residential neighborhood near a Rainbow Foods just after 6 p.m.
Police responded to 911 calls about the shooting and arrested Tran just a few blocks away from where the shootings took place.
Devin Aryal, who was killed by a gunshot wound to the head, died at Regions Hospital in St. Paul. Melissa Aryal was shot in the arm, but was released from the hospital Tuesday and was able to talk to reporters from home.
