“We’re not really a high-roller kind of bar,” says Max Egermann, bartender at the Kitty Cat Klub in Dinkytown.
The bar conceals within its unassuming exterior a jewel of a hangout. Spendthrift as most of us scholars are, we’re seeking the deals, anyway — not the 1987 vintage of some scotch you can’t pronounce the name of.
KCK has happy hour every day from 4 until 7 p.m. It involves $2 beers, $2.50 wines and $3 rail drinks. Pabst Blue Ribbon is always available for $3, and Huber Bock is $2.50.
The smoky, boudoir atmosphere is perfect for catching a particularly intimate show, grooving your ass off at HOTEL or Menergy dance nights or sinking between sofas in the back room and snaking a smooch with your sugar pie.
On any given night, you’re likely to hear righteous tunes wafting out of the mainroom. Recent performers include Lookbook and Kid Dakota, with acts like Haley Bonar and The Chambermaids coming to KCK within the next week (on the 16 and the 18, respectively).
If you’re worried about those busy nights at KCK when it’s nearly impossible to get a drink at the bar, Egermann offers this advice: Stand near the cash registers. That hot pink sequined top and all the makeup in the world will not get the attention you’re looking for
