The University of Minnesota menâÄôs track and field teamâÄôs distance duo has done it again. Junior Chris Rombough and sophomore Hassan Mead both surpassed the school record in the 3,000-meter run at the Washington Husky Classic over the weekend. Rombough held the record with a time of 7:59.36 and bested that mark himself by crossing in 7:57.58. Mead, however, took ownership of the record as he finished the race in 7:56.60. MeadâÄôs finish is good enough for an NCAA provisional mark. Mead wasnâÄôt alone in his NCAA provisional mark, however. Two teammates joined Mead in the feat as Matt FisherâÄôs 7-foot-3-inch personal best in the high jump notched him an NCAA provisional qualifier. It was also the third-best jump in Minnesota history. Rounding out the trifecta for the men was Aaron Studt, who recorded a personal best in the shot put, as well, hitting an NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 62-1 3/4. Dorniden takes down yet another school record As if Heather DornidenâÄôs name wasnâÄôt common enough in the category of school bests, she added another Minnesota record to her name in Iowa State over the weekend. Dorniden bested the school record in the mile with a time of 4:38.80, also an NCAA automatic qualifying time. Dorniden added the mile to the 400, 800 and a number of relays which she currently holds school records in. âÄúSheâÄôs put together two good weeks here,âÄù head coach Matt Bingle said. âÄúAt Iowa State, she just got into a good rhythm and went for it. ThatâÄôs probably the best mile of her life.âÄù The women have had two solid weeks of competition and with the Big Ten championships approaching, Bingle said he is overall pretty happy with where is team is at. âÄúWeâÄôve had two good weeks and I keep asking the team to take a step forward each week and just be themselves and enjoy competing and having fun,âÄù he said. âÄúAnd weâÄôre just going to continue to do that these next two weeks.âÄù
