Gophers men's tennis player Leandro Toledo was named the Big Ten's freshman of the year Thursday, capping off a season in which he upset four top-35 players and finished 7-4 in the conference.
Toledo and junior Rok Bonin, the team's top two singles players, earned All-Big Ten First Team honors.
Bonin finished 6-5 in the conference's regular season, playing 10 of 11 matches at the first singles spot. He also played along with Julian Dehn at the No. 1 doubles position, helping the duo post a 7-4 record.
Top women's tennis player Natallia Pintusava was named to the All-Big Ten First Team as well.
The sophomore Pintusava was 7-4 in the conference in singles and 6-2 at the first singles position. She never cracked the national rankings, but she defeated two ranked players in conference at No. 1 singles.
Pintusava teamed up with senior Magdalena Wiecha to post a 8-3 conference record in doubles, including a 7-3 record at the top doubles spot.
