The Gophers scored three goals in the first five minutes of the game and that was all they needed to pick up the Gophers fifth straight win.
The Gophers beat St. Cloud State 3-0 on Friday. Alex Woken scored two of the three goals for the Gophers adding to her season goal total of four. Nicole Schammel added her seventh goal of the season to help seal the victory for the now 11-4-1. The Gophers outshot the Huskies 36-14. Sidney Peters had 14 saves on the night.
“Certainly great to get out to a three goal lead, we had really good energy in the first period and we were able to sustain that energy throughout the game,” said head coach Brad Frost.
Woken scored her first goal 1:49 into the game off of a pass from Schammel. Then it was Schammel who scored a minute later off of passes from Patti Marshall and Taylor Wente, who extended her point streak to five games. The final goal of the game was just 5:26 into the game. Woken scored on Minnesota’s first power play of the game.
“Things are starting to come together, my mind is starting to catch up and get back to where it was [before the injury],” Woken said.
