Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak plans to kick off his run for governor of Minnesota in Dinkytown. The recently re-elected mayor announced via Facebook that he will officially launch his campaign for the stateâÄôs top spot Sunday, Dec. 6 at the Varsity Theater in Dinkytown. In early November, Rybak filed paperwork with the Minnesota Campaign Finance and Public Disclosure Board to create an election committee for his gubernatorial run. But the board said he should have filed the paperwork in May when he conducted a poll through his mayoral campaign that asked Minnesota residents âÄî many outside of the metro area âÄî to rate a number of officials, four of which were DFL candidates, for governor. The board ruled that the poll was designed to benefit a gubernatorial bid and charged RybakâÄôs campaign committee for governor $26,500 to reimburse the cost of the survey. Months before he officially filed, Rybak attended gubernatorial forums and spoke with potential supporters. The Teamsters Local 120, the largest Teamsters local in the state, also endorsed him as a candidate for governor before he officially announced his run. The campaign launch will be held from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.
