On Monday, a $50 million project began to renovate Nicollet Mall, the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal reports.
The renovation will upgrade sidewalks and other passageways and will also work on power, gas and telecommunication lines as well as covered sewer and water pipes underneath the street, according to the report.
A variety of bus routes will change due to the construction, reports CBS Minnesota.
Businesses around Nicollet Mall are worried that the renovations may drive away customers, the article reports.
Both city and state tax dollars will pay for the project, according to the Star Tribune.
Construction is expected to finish by 2017, according to the Star Tribune.
