The University of Minnesota announced Thursday that it had renamed its Science Teaching and Student Services building Robert H. Bruininks Hall, after the University of Minnesota’s 15th president.
The Board of Regents approved the building’s name change at its Dec. 12 meeting, according to a University press release.
Bruininks paved the way for the construction of the STSS building, which was completed during his presidency in 2010. He was also a leader in the construction of the TCF Bank Stadium and buildings in the Biomedical Discovery District, the release said.
Bruininks arrived at the University as an assistant professor in educational psychology, according to the release. He was appointed president in 2002 and returned to faculty in 2011, working at both the Humphrey School of Public Affairs and the College of Education and Human Development. Bruininks retired last year.
The school will hold a dedication ceremony will early next year, the release said.
