Caucus goers at Wednesday night’s reconvened event at Coffman Memorial Union will need to show proof of I.D. to participate and new caucus chairs will facilitate the meeting.
After a fight cut short the Ward 6, Precinct 3 caucus Feb. 4, Minnesota DFL officials want to make sure things go more smoothly the second time around.
The new caucus will be held in the Great Hall of the University of Minnesota’s Coffman Union Wednesday at 7 p.m.
Three hundred people had crowded into the gymnasium of the Brian Coyle Community Center for the original caucus, but tension and scuffles between attendees shut it down just 40 minutes in.
With a 775-person capacity, Coffman’s Great Hall will offer a less-crowded space, said David Weinlick, party affairs director for the Minnesota DFL.
Weinlick said proof of residence within the precinct will be required, but that residents won’t be required to show a photo I.D.
He said additional security will be present and a description of what a caucus is will be distributed to caucus goers at the door.
