Fire in an industrial park east of campus rekindled Tuesday morning where emergency vehicles briefly blocked traffic on a road frequented by University of Minnesota buses.
Minneapolis Fire Department responders were able to extinguish flames within an hour of receiving an 8:30 a.m. call about a fire at the Harris Machinery Company building on 30th Avenue Southeast and University’s Transitway.
Tuesday’s fire was preceded by a larger, multiple-alarm fire at the abandoned warehouse on Sunday. No one was injured in the weekend blaze that drew about a dozen emergency vehicles to the scene.
It is not uncommon for burning embers to reignite fires, said Bryan Tyner, an assistant chief for the Fire Department.
The cause of the fire remains undetermined and under ongoing investigation, Tyner said.
