The Minnesota women’s tennis team won one match and lost another out East this weekend.

The Gophers (4-2 overall) entered the weekend on a three-match win streak but started with a 4-3 loss to Dartmouth on Saturday in Hanover, N.H.

Things started out well for Minnesota as it swept all their doubles matches to pick up the doubles point.

Senior Ashley Schellhas cruised to a two-set win in the No. 1 singles match to give the Gophers a 2-0 lead, but Dartmouth won the No. 2, No. 4 and No. 6 singles matches.

Junior Danielle Mousseau tied the match at 3-3 with her win in the No. 3 singles match, making the No. 5 singles match the tie-breaker.

Sophomore Karina Chiarelli lost the first set 6-0, but rebounded in the second set, winning 6-0, forcing the match to a third and deciding set.

Dartmouth’s Jesse Adler was just too much for Chiarelli, winning 7-6 to clinch the match for Dartmouth.

Minnesota didn’t let Saturday’s loss affect it on Sunday as it defeated Boston University 5-2 in Boston.

The Gophers won a pair of doubles matches to take the doubles point and won four singles matches to get back to their winning ways.

Gophers beat SMU

The men’s tennis team won its only match of the weekend, beating Southern Methodist University 5-2 on Saturday at the Baseline Tennis Center.

Minnesota (7-2 overall, 1-0 Big Ten) swept the doubles matches and won three straight singles matches to clinch the victory.

Senior D.J. Geatz was part of a winning doubles tandem with senior Sion Wilkons. Gaetz also won the No. 3 singles match.
