The Big Ten Conference named senior Alena Brooks its track athlete of the week Monday.
Brooks won the distance medley relay and placed second in the 800-meter run this weekend at the Notre Dame Meyo Invitational. Brooks, along with teammates redshirt freshman Becca Dyson, senior Alena Brooks, junior Te’Shon Adderley and junior Maggie Bollig, ran 11:28.31 to win the relay by more than five seconds.
In the 800, Brooks had the fastest time among collegiate athletes at 2:06.24. This time was also a personal record, second all-time for Minnesota, first in the Big Ten conference this season and sixth in the NCAA this season.
It's Brooks' first award of her career. The Gophers' last indoor track athlete of the week was Heather Dorniden in 2009.
Minnesota will compete this weekend at the ISU Classic and St. Thomas Invite.
