A gas leak on the University of Minnesota campus prompted response from police officers and firefighters Thursday morning.
Police began closing off several roads near Southeast Harvard Street around 9:30 a.m. after a construction company hit a medium-sized gas line, according to officials from the Minneapolis Fire Department. The line was shut off around 10:35 a.m. with no reported injuries.
The leak was caused by a project to expand the Fairview Hospital. Nearby construction at Pioneer Hall was also temporarily halted due to the leak, but there were no evacuations in relation to the incident, according to a University spokesperson.
Southeast Harvard Street and sections of Delaware Street Southeast and East River Parkway were closed off as officials contained the leak.
“It is inconvenient”, said Nicholas Loch, an employee at the Masonic Cancer Research Building, who was unable to get to work because of road closures.
