A special election to fill the Minnesota Senate seats left behind by Linda Berglin, DFL-Minneapolis, and Linda Scheid, DFL-Brooklyn Park, will be held October 18, according to Politics in Minnesota. A primary will be held September 13.
Berglin, who served in the House and Senate for 38 years, took a new job as a health policy manager for Hennepin County. Her district included a large chunk of South Minneapolis.
Hours after Berglin’s announcement Monday, Rep. Jeff Hayden, DFL-Minneapolis, declared he was running for her seat, according to Minnesota Public Radio.
Scheid passed away in mid-June after a six-year battle with ovarian cancer. She was first elected to the Minnesota House in 1976.
