After Day 2 of the ever-contentious recount for MinnesotaâÄôs open Senate seat, Republican incumbent Norm Coleman held onto his lead, though with 42.33 percent of ballots recounted, some votes have apparently slipped away. Democratic challenger Al Franken has dipped into ColemanâÄôs margin by 86 votes as of Thursday evening, according to the Secretary of StateâÄôs Office . A margin of victory, based on original Election Day numbers, of less than 0.5 percent triggered the recount, in accordance with state law. And during the ballot-by-ballot, by-hand recount, representatives from Coleman and Franken camps arenâÄôt staying quiet. For the second straight day, they repeatedly challenged election judgesâÄô rulings on particular ballots, sending disputed ones before the canvassing board âÄî the overarching body administering the recount âÄî for final judgment. Coleman representatives have challenged 360 ballots, while Franken has disputed 374 since the recount began. The recount will continue today.
