The Minneapolis Police Department and University of Minnesota Police Department have responded to reports of a shooting, thefts and attempted assault in the past week.
A shooting on the 400 block of 8th Avenue Southeast on Sept. 4 was reported to MPD around 4:00 a.m. The incident occurred around 1:00 a.m. earlier that morning. Two victims sustained minor injuries and three people reported damaged vehicles. Bullet casings were recovered from the scene. The incident is still under investigation by MPD.
MPD officers responded to reports of theft at the St. Anthony Village Apartments in Marcy-Holmes on Sept. 4 after tenants reported a man allegedly stealing from unlocked cars. When officers arrived at around 5:00 a.m., police found another suspect pounding on a car door with a rock, according to a police report. Officers arrested both men, charging one with damaging property and attempted bike theft. The other was charged with tampering with a car, attempted bike theft and felony possession of burglary tools.
An officer responded to the 600 block of Cedar Avenue South near the University’s West Bank campus at around 6:30 p.m. Monday after a female was allegedly threatened by a male suspect. The male suspect allegedly walked toward her, threatening to strike her. When the suspect moved as if to hit her, the victim kicked the suspect and he left. The victim was not injured.
At around 6:00 a.m. Monday, a MPD officer responded to a theft from a parked car in the 400 block of 2nd Street Southeast. The car’s front passenger side window was smashed and a backpack was missing. The incident occurred around 1:00 a.m. that morning.
An off-duty officer working at Raising Cane’s in Dinkytown on Friday received reports from business managers that one employee stole about $70 of property from another employee on Sept. 5. Surveillance footage will be reviewed by MPD and the incident is under further investigation.
In the last week, the UMPD reported 49 liquor law violations in Superblock, Middlebrook and Comstock residence halls. Most of the violations occurred on Aug. 30 and 31. The University officers also responded to 13 thefts, including eight stolen bikes.
