Its' the moment we all haven't been waiting for — Hollywood is going to try ruining Mrs. Doubtfire. I don’t even know why I’m surprised anymore.
It shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone else either — a sequel to the classic 1993 flick has reportedly “been in the works since 2001.”
The original film starring Robin Williams, Sally Field and Pierce Brosnan seems more like a paycheck for returner Williams. However, a glimmer of hope shines through as David Berenbaum, best known for writing “Elf” and “The Spiderwick Chronicles,” has agreed to create the script.
The project aims to reunite Williams and director Chris Columbus in a sequel, though I really can’t see what new direction they might take. Maybe this time one of the children won’t let Williams see his grandchildren and he must, once again, don the granny suit and save the day? Will the sequel be as be as graphic as its predecessor in its fruit violence? Will “Dude (Looks Like A Lady)” be taken from retirement for this epic conclusion? Only time will tell.
It appears that the whole thing is still up in the air, but the proposal is looking promising. Maybe I’m just a hyphen-happy-cynical-pessimist-jerk, but I can’t see this ending well for anyone looking to keep their childhood memories intact.
