The race for Ward 3 on the Minneapolis City Council had it's most compelling developments yet as both challenger Jacob Frey and Councilwoman Diane Hofstede have announced their list of backers on the council.
Frey, an attorney gunning for Hofstede's seat, announced in a press release Wednesday that he has the endorsements of council members Gary Schiff, Elizabeth Glidden, Robert Lilligren and Lisa Goodman, City Pages reported. The Star Tribune goes on to report that council members openly endorsing a challenger over their colleague is "unusual."
Hofstede responded Thursday with a list of her own. Council Members Barb Johnson, Don Samuels and Meg Tuthill, along with four local union groups are endorsing Hofstede, the Star Tribune reports.
Hofstede has been on the council for seven years, and the Minnesota Daily wrote an article on her in 2011.
Along with working as an attorney, Frey is a renowned marathon runner. The Minnesota Daily wrote about Frey in late 2012.
