The Great Depression was especially hard on Elmo. The era saw Elmo’s usual weather service, Mother Nature, get bought out by Sysco Corp. amid financial troubles. The restaurant caterer was new to weather service and Elmo has suffered with misdeliveries from the food giant ever since. Boy was Elmo peeved in 1987-88 when he recieved four boxes of drought dust and two bottles of Tobasco Sauce instead of 5 trillion gallons of rain water and a can of Billy Graham Rainbow Powder. Sysco is getting better, though. Today it delivered some Nabisco partly sunny mix combined with Highs in the 30s. Perhaps Elmo will break out some of Bing Crosby’s Official White Christmas snow, too.
