Charges against a University of Minnesota law professor accused of raping and stalking an ex-girlfriend were dropped Thursday.
Criminal sexual conduct and stalking charges against Francesco Parisi, which were filed late last month, were dropped because the allegations couldn’t be substantiated, the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office said in a press release.
In the statement, the attorney’s office said it would have no further comment.
“Considering all of the evidence that we have now, the charges are no longer supported by probable cause are hereby dismissed in the interests of Justice,” the attorney’s office said in a court document.
Parisi, who has taught at the University since 2006, had been in jail for the past three weeks. He was released Tuesday.
Mike Colich, one of Parisi’s attorneys, said he asked the county attorney’s office to release Thursday’s statement.
“All [the claims] were never substantiated,” Colich said. “In fact there was evidence to show that all these things were not true.”
Another of Parisi’s attorneys, John Braun, said Parisi intends to sue his accuser and possibly the county attorney’s office for defamation.
