Beginning Feb. 19, local streets will once again be blocked for construction.
Hennepin County officials announced Thursday the schedule for this year’s University-area construction, which will include continued work in the Dinkytown area.
The bridge at 15th Avenue and Fourth Street S.E. will close for rebuilding. As a result, Fourth Street will be blocked between 14th and 16th avenues until a new bridge is completed in fall 1997. The street will be open to limited, local traffic and all other traffic will be rerouted.
In May, repairs to Fourth Street between 10th Avenue and Oak Street will begin; the work is slated to be completed by fall quarter 1997. During the reconstruction, Fourth Street will remain open to two-way traffic, but the open lanes will be in poor condition.
University students and staff members might notice temporary closures on Fourth Street starting in May, but only during phases of construction, including paving and the installation of sidewalks, curbs and gutters.
Fifth Street will continue to be partially one-way until construction is complete. Around December 1997, traffic on Fifth Street will again run in both directions.
