I want to acknowledge and thank the women on our Gophers gymnastics team for a recent act of kindness and generosity.
A young girl in my community was recently diagnosed with a brain tumor. She is a big Gophers gymnastics fan, so one of our parents contacted the team to see if they would autograph some memorabilia for her to lift her spirits.
The team responded in the most positive way. Not only did they provide autographed keepsakes, but they put together a short video from the team, sending their support, love and good wishes. It was personal and very touching. None of our gymnasts even knew this little girl. They did it because they are kind and generous young women and they wanted to help. What great role models for our aspiring young athletes.
I have worked with University of Minnesota students for more than 40 years, and I have come to expect goodness and even greatness from them. This response from the gymnastics team surprised even me. They are a class act, and I am proud to have them represent the University.
