I looove to introduce people to new beauty products, perfumes, and stores, even if that means they’ll swipe them from me. It’s OK, it’s called sharing the wealth. So, without further ado, and to hopefully brighten up this crappy day (at least it isn’t snowing!), here are some Fashionista-certified endorsements. Go to Sephora, check ’em out, let me know what you think. (That’s a hint: WRITE TO ME)
Aveda brushes- I nanny for an Aveda stylist during the summer and she’s gotten me loyal to all things Aveda. See, I don’t brush my hair unless I’ve just washed it. Ever. Call me Mary-Kate Olsen, call me gross, I don’t care. However, I just bought my first Aveda paddle brush ($20) and it is a thing of beauty and a joy forever. I have waves that can get really frizzy and gross in the wrong hands, and the brush smoothes that all right out. It’s much more gentle than my old Goody one from Target.
Lancome Oscillation mascara- I talked about this in the pages of A&E last semester in my "beauty explorer" story; it’s vibrating mascara. Scary, I know. But also awesome. It really does make your eyelashes long and fluttery, and it’s Lancome so you know it’s gonna be good. (In my opinion Lancome kills all mascara competition. Diorshow, big disappointment. Chanel, blah. Lancome = winner.) I swiped this from my mom, who didn’t love it as much as I did and clearly, both of us ignored the rule that you’re not supposed to share eye makeup. (My mom is a big mascara freak too.) Oscillation is kiiiind of expensive ($30) so it’s unlikely I’ll buy it for myself again, but it’s definitely really cool. Otherwise I use Maybelline Lash Stiletto, which is a lot easier on my debit card ($7.50).
Vera Wang perfume- Another thing I stole from my mama is Vera Wang’s eponymous perfume. It’s super bridal and floral-soapy, which might make it a little too old for me, but for some reason in a sea of Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue it feels very fresh. Another perfume I love lately, and probably because it’s ALMOST spring, is Gucci’s new release, Flora. It’s only out at Neiman Marcus right now, but it will appear department-store-wide soon.
NARS Orgasm blush- This blush wins beauty awards all the time, and for good reason. It’s lovely. Lives up to the hype, and the peachy-pink flatters most complexions. My roommate Amy and I both use it.
Hydrogen peroxide- The best value on my endorsement list is hydrogen peroxide. A huge bottle costs like $2 at Target and it’s the best teeth whitener ever. I swish a little for about a minute before I brush my teeth; it makes this lovely fizzy sound and is a necessary ritual when you drink as much coffee as I do. Just don’t get it in your hair. Turns orange.
Sally Hansen Insta-Dri nail color in Racey Rouge- I don’t know why they call it "rouge" when it’s definitely pink, but whatever works. I’ve always wanted to be a nail polish namer. Anyway, this is a punchy pink that I bought at Target for $5; dries super fast and looks like spring.
